A View Askew

"Guards, Knights, squires.....PREPARE FOR BATTLE!" is the beginning of one of the coolest (if not THE coolest and most epic) sequences of any movie. I'm talking of course, about Excalibur, the great John Boorman flick about King Arthur. I remember watching this at my Aunt Bea's on her amazing laserdisc player, (gasp! its like a record you can jump to any point to!) and feeling goosebumps as my hero, The Boy Who Would Be King, polished his armor, gathered his remaining Knights, and rode to war against the overwhelming dread forces of Mordred as the apple blossoms bloomed and "O Fortuna" blasted from her quadraphonic speakers. I was hooked. Not with the legend of Arthur; that was ingrained into my body and soul (still is in fact), but the powerful force the one-two punch combination movies and music could have on the human pyche....I mean...goosebumps man! Would Star Wars/Jaws/Close Encounters/Indiana Jones have been the same without John Williams' scoring? Hell no! Each movie (btw, I DESPISE people who use the word "film" to describe a moving picture---unless it's done by Bellini, Ford, Tousseau, Griffith, Hitchcock, Welles, Herzog or the man Kurosawa, IT'S NOT A FUCKING FILM!) is virtually synonymous with its music, or the main theme at least, and the acorn of the future oak-tree-to-be of the person that is me was planted. I wanted to make movies, music, and stories to inspire people; so, if you stay with me Gentle Reader, you'll find an interesting take on life inspired by movies, music, TV, art, literature, pop culture and the occasional original thought...aka, the Wright Angle.
